VIDEO: Injured eagle rescued from Clearwater roadway
CLEARWATER (FOX 13) - An injured eagle perched in the middle of Countryside Boulevard in Clearwater this morning is expected to recover.
The police and fire departments quickly arrived on the scene after motorists called in to report the injured bird. First responders think the bird of prey was going for some road kill when it was struck by a car near the mall on Countryside Boulevard.
Wildlife rescue workers arrived at the scene, and captured the eagle with help from the police and fire departments.
Kris Porter, a wild life expert who specializes in raptor rescues was called in to capture the bird. Porter took the bird to Busch Garden’s Zoo Hospital where it was treated for a chipped bone on it’s wing.
Eagles mate for life and Porter says, in a matter of days, the female will be released in the same location where a "special someone" is waiting.
"I'm sure he's around, and as soon as she comes out, I bet he shows up," Porter said. "We love our happy endings."
Busch Gardens operated on the animal free of charge, as part of a grant program. Clearwater police say the eagle suffered a bone chip on its right wing and some bruising.
