Storms bring record-setting July 4 rain to North Texas

Mother Nature provided its own fireworks show of sorts in the early hours of Independence Day in North Texas.

Heavy rain and lightning in the area made for a record-setting July 4 as 1.87 inches of rain fell at DFW Airport, according to the National Weather Service. That breaks the previous July 4 record of 1.31 inches of rain in 2006.

The rain canceled Coppell’s Patriotic Parade on Monday morning. Burleson officials also canceled their parade, but it’s rescheduled for Saturday, July 9.

Arlington officials delayed the start of their Independence Day parade by one hour. The parade is one of the largest in the state and the oldest running event in Arlington, going on now for 51 years.

Up to 46,000 Oncor customers were without power at one point on Monday morning. As of noon, Tarrant County had 14,000 people without power and Dallas County had 11,000.
