Plano bakery offers bouquet of bacon roses

Imagine the joy of receiving a fresh bouquet of roses – bacon roses that is.

A North Texas bakery is now offering edible hand rolled and candied bacon in the form of long-stemmed roses.

Located in Plano, Amazeballz sells handmade cake balls in a variety of flavors.

In partnership with Ditzy Blondes, Amazeballz also offers unique, bacon-filled bouquets.

It all started when Meredith Browning, owner of Ditzy Blondes, needed to find her dad a birthday gift.

"My dad has his birthday right next to Christmas, two days before, so I could only afford to buy him one present," Browning explained. "He is a diabetic, so he can't have cake, cookies or fruit. So I thought up the bacon idea because we used to make bacon wrapped steaks in the oven. I couldn't afford steak, so I thought, why not just make bacon rolls?"

When the rolls came out of the oven, Browning said they looked just like flowers.

After her friends saw her finished product on Facebook, Browning's bacon roses became an immediate hit. She started making them for friends and designed a special, realistic looking wooden stem to hold the candied rolls without them sliding off.

After putting them on the market to see how they would sell last July, the roses have been met with an overwhelmingly positive response from customers.

The roses come in a vacuum-sealed package that can last up to two weeks unopened.

Once they are opened, they have to be eaten or refrigerated within 24 hours.

Browning's bacon roses can be purchased in person at Amazeballz and also online at ditzyblondes.com, Amazon and Etsy.
