The chase ended in Crandall when the suspect stopped on the northbound frontage road near a Subway restaurant. The suspect reportedly ditched the car and tried to run on foot.
During the foot chase, shots were fired, and the suspect was struck.
The suspect was taken to a local hospital in an unknown condition.
No officers were injured.
What we don't know:
Authorities have only released a limited amount of information.
They have not said why the deputy tried to pull over the suspect.
His name and identity have not been released. It's also not clear how badly he was injured.
There's also no word on how many deputies were involved in the shooting.
Eyewitness account:
An employee working at a nearby gas station heard the gunshots while he was taking out the trash.
"At first I think my mind is playing tricks on me, you know. It's gotta be the ice machine. Maybe something fell inside," said Tommie Jemerson. "I come back inside. I look at the cameras and see on the cameras there's lights all next to the building, a bunch of police lights."
Jemerson said the suspect jumped out of his vehicle near the Subway.
"Eventually I come out and they're chasing the guy further into the area behind me and gunshots were exchanged," he said. "I heard the shots once I ran around to the side of the building."
He's now praying for the officers who were involved.
"Sometimes you're out there trying to do your job in a life risk situation," he said.
