Fifteen-year-old John Moran died suddenly Friday morning.

Mansfield police say the teenager was playfully sparring with a friend Thursday night, then later complained of stomach pains and family members took him to the hospital. Early indications, his family says, are that John's spleen may have ruptured.

"It almost seems like it was so senseless and so needless but yet those kinds of things happen," said a cousin, Derrel Allen. "And of course, the close family, it's unbearable right now."

Family member say John, a middle child, has two brothers and two sisters. They recall him as a jokester who loved to eat. The Mansfield High School JV football players was also involved in his church, part of a boys ministry called Royal Rangers.

"You can't dwell on what-ifs," said Derrel Allen. "It will totally eat you alive. So we are dwelling on the memory of John Mark and how good of a kid he was."

Police say John Moran's death is being investigated as an accident.
