Arrest made in Lewisville pawn shop owner's murder, police seeking 2 more suspects

Lewisville police said JaTevon Johnson is believed to be one of three suspects who attempted to rob the Lewisville Pawn Shop on Mill Street on the morning of Feb. 14.

An 18-year-old has been arrested and is charged with the murder of Lewisville pawn shop owner Daniel White.

JaTevon Marquise Johnson was taken into custody by Dallas police on Saturday.

Lewisville police said Johnson is believed to be one of three suspects who attempted to rob the Lewisville Pawn Shop on Mill Street on the morning of Feb. 14.

Matt Martucci is a spokesman with the city of Lewisville. He said he couldn't release details about the arrest due to the ongoing investigation, but he did say Johnson was located in the city of Dallas.

"I can't go into the specifics. But through some tips that we had received, through some leads the detective had been working on, they were able to identify this individual that's now in custody," he said.

White was fatally shot during an attempted robbery on Feb. 14. He was alone opening the store around   9 a.m. when Lewisville police say three armed men walked in to rob the place. 

One of the men shot White in the chest. White was able to call 911 but died at the hospital.

The day after the deadly encounter, White's father-in-law spoke to FOX 4.

"His attitude of helping the community in Lewisville was great," Joe Gonzales said. "And he really enjoyed helping the individuals that did business with them."

54-year-old Daniel White had just opened up his pawn shop Tuesday morning when police say he was shot and killed. The three suspects are still on the run.

Reached by phone Sunday, the family told FOX 4 they wanted to hold off on making any additional comments until all three suspects are arrested. However, they did express their gratitude to police.

"We told the family of the arrest," Martucci said. "They're very happy that there is an arrest. They understand more arrests are possible."

Martucci would not say if Johnson is believed to have been the gunman.

Suspect in Lewisville pawn shop murder arrested

Police arrested one of three people wanted for the murder of a suburban pawn shop owner. Jatevon Marquise Johnson was taken into custody Saturday by Dallas police.

Investigators still need help locating the other two suspects seen leaving the pawn shop in a red, late model Ford Escape SUV.

Johnson is charged with capital murder. He is in the Lewisville jail on a $1 million bond.

Lewisville police are asking anyone with information about the two other suspects to give them a call.
