Ceremony celebrates 35 Express completion

A desperately needed highway expansion that has been in the works for years officially opens Wednesday.

Tens of thousands of commuters take Interstate 35E between Dallas and Oklahoma daily. It the past it could cause quite a headache. But not anymore. The 35 Express project is complete.

The $1.4 billion project has helped to increase the capacity of cars on I-35E.  Additional main lanes in both directions were added plus several TEXpress toll lanes running north of Lewisville Lake.

The bridge over Lewisville Lake used to be mess after accidents. There was no way for drivers to get around the crash. But things have now changed. There is a new southbound bridge, designated northbound lanes and frontage roads on either side.

There are also walkways on either side of the bridge for pedestrian and bike traffic.

A ribbon cutting ceremony for the project happens Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.
