Beto O’Rourke holds campaign kickoff event in Dallas

Beto O’Rourke was in Dallas Sunday as he tours the state kicking off his campaign for Texas governor.

The Democrat addressed a crowd at Fair Park.

He's been traveling around the state since launching his campaign Monday.

During the speech, he criticized state leaders for their response to the winter storm in February.

O'Rourke is seeking to be the first Democrat to win a statewide race in Texas in three decades.

"What I'm hearing from people is we've got to get past labels and the differences that would otherwise divide us, including of party," he said. "We can't run this race for Democrats. We can't run this race for Republicans. We've got to run this race for Texans because what we see is that when we are divided and polarized and unable to find common ground, we don't make progress on anything that's important to us."

O’Rourke lost to Ted Cruz in his bid for U.S. Senate in 2018.

His presidential bid failed to gain much traction in 2020.
