Abilene officer killed in crash on the way to Dallas
DALLAS - Abilene police are mourning the loss of an officer in a traffic accident.
Det. Elise Ybarra was on her way to the Crimes Against Children Conference in Dallas Sunday evening. While stuck in traffic on Interstate 20, a pickup truck ran into her car.
Ybarra died at the scene. Two other Abilene detectives were hurt.
Abilene police said the 33-year-old had been with the department since 2014. She served as a patrol officer for two years and then became a child abuse investigator with the special victim's unit in 2016.
She leaves behind a husband and 10-month-old daughter.
The Texas Department of Transportation is investigating the crash.
