New renderings of the future home of the Texas Rangers were released on Thursday one year ahead of the ballpark’s opening.

Reporters were shown progress on the Globe Life Field, which revealed the main concourse and seating areas taking shape.

“We’ve made tremendous progress, as you look around the site now you can see a lot more pre-cast that’s in place and the seating bowl actually starting to take shape,” said Rob Matwick, Exec. Vice President of Business Operations, Texas Rangers.

The latest designs for the ballpark feature a lot of glass, arches and big windows.

“We wanted to be able to have games, have everyone feel completely comfortable in the middle of the summer, and we also wanted it to feel very open and transparent at the same time,” said Bryan Trubey, lead designer, Globe Life Field.

Trubey says one of the goals is to create a more open feel at the new ballpark.

“The existing ballpark kind of looks in on itself, we wanted to create a ballpark that seemed very open all the time,” he said.

Officials said many of the materials in the new $1.2 billion stadium are sourced from Texas. About 19,000 tons of steel are going into the roof, which will reportedly be able to open or close in 12 minutes and is currently being put together in pieces.

“We’re now starting to put those exterior finishes on, glass will follow and eventually by the summer we’ll start to close the building in so we can begin to work on finishes around the facility,” Matwick said.

Officials say the retractable roof will be one of the final touches on the stadium to be completed before it opens.

Construction crews said they are still on track to be finished by this time next year, in time for the start of the 2020 season.
