Members of Dallas Fire Rescue’s Urban Search and Rescue team freed a worker who was trapped in a collapsed trench Monday morning.

Spokesman Jason Evans said the trench collapsed around 9:30 a.m. at a construction site at the Northwood Country Club on Alpha Road.

The worker was apparently inside the trench when the walls caved in, trapping him about 10 feet down. Evans said he was able to talk to paramedics and didn’t appear to be in any obvious distress while waiting to be rescued.

Rescuers had to shore up the trench so it wouldn’t collapse any further. They finally pulled the worker out around 11:40 a.m.

The man was taken to the hospital by air ambulance for an evaluation. The extent of his injuries and his exact condition is unknown.
