Woman charged for Dallas wrong-way crash that injured 6

A North Texas woman was charged with six counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for a wrong-way crash in Southeast Oak Cliff that injured six people, including three children.

A North Texas woman is facing charges for a wrong-way crash that injured six people, including three children.

What we know:

The crash happened this past Wednesday on Laureland Road near Shadycrest Trail, which is in Southeast Oak Cliff.

Dallas police said 52-year-old Lateisha Wilson was driving her blue Ford F-250 on the wrong side of Laureland Road and collided head-on with a family in a Mazda CX.

Three adults and three children, ages 4, 8 and 11, were in the hit head-on collision. They all survived.

Wilson was arrested and charged with six counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

She bonded out of Dallas County Jail on Saturday.

Dig deeper:

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Wilson admitted to driving on the wrong side of the road because she believed another driver was chasing her to cause her harm.

That other driver told investigators that Wilson had struck his vehicle and driven away from the scene of the minor accident. He said he followed her to try to flag her down or at least get her license plate number.

Other witnesses told police they saw Wilson going about 80 miles per hour in the wrong direction just before the crash.

What they're saying:

Some in Southeast Oak Cliff say it’s common to see wrecks along Laureland Road, but this was a fortunate surprise to neighbors who say the crash sounded even worse than it looks.

"It was real loud," said neighbor Benny Gabriel. "And I never heard anything that loud."

"Because people come flying through here all the time," said neighbor, Fair Watson.

Watson, however, says the crash next to her home last week was unlike anything she’s heard.

"This lady kept saying that somebody was chasing her," said Watson.

"We don’t believe her story because if this guy was just chasing her, why would he still be here?"

When Watson was informed of the claim that Wilson hit the man's vehicle then sped off, she told FOX 4,"That makes sense, because that guy would’ve been gone had he just been randomly chasing her."

What's next:

The father driving the Mazda suffered a broken back, according to the affidavit.

Several occupants had severe lacerations and one of the kids was in-and-out of consciousness following the collision.
