RAW: Car crashes into Frisco restaurant

Customers at the Frisco restaurant Tupelo Honey were shocked when a car drove through a glass wall on Monday night.

"It was definitely shocking. I got messages right away from everyone. ‘There’s a car in the building! I’ll update you,’" said Cheyenne Delyane, one of the restaurant’s servers.

Delyane was supposed to work Monday night but had to call in sick because she sliced part of her finger with a knife.

She’s thankful she did because she could have been in the path of the car when it crashed into the restaurant.

Coworkers sent her photos and videos of the crash.

"That definitely would have been my section as a closer in that main dining area section. So that’s crazy. Luckily, I didn’t have to go in," she said.

The Frisco Fire Department said five people had minor injuries. No one was taken to the hospital.

The damage was to aluminum framing and glass. The crash didn’t cause any structural damage.

"They said the car went straight through the glass door, broke it, went straight through the patio. Apparently, it was a roundabout, and he just went the wrong way at the roundabout and went straight into the building," Delayne said.

Frisco police haven’t released any information on the driver but said intoxication was not a factor. They wouldn’t say whether speed or distracted driving played a role.

The restaurant was open for dinner at the time, and several customers were injured.

"I’ve never ever, ever seen anything like a car fly straight into it. I mean, that’s past the patio. That’s crazy," Delayne said.

She is thankful everyone walked away.

"It could have been way worse, could have been a major injury," she said.

The restaurant was closed Tuesday for repairs. It should reopen on Wednesday with the hole in the window covered up.
