Students remember inspiring Ennis teacher killed in weekend crash

Current and former students of an Ennis High School teacher are trying to understand why the beloved educator was killed over the weekend while on vacation in Colorado.

The beloved 47-year-old teacher was involved in a car crash that killed him and injured his brother-in-law. He spent half his life here at Ennis High School teaching kids how to care about themselves.

Boston’s students say he was the teacher they all have in their hearts that they'll never forget.

"It wasn't a job to him,” said former student Lauren Fotheringham.

Boston taught horticulture. A memorial is growing in front of two greenhouses, where students also learned how to nurture their future.

"He would push and make that extra effort to help every kid as best as he could,” said Fotheringham.

Boston put a message on YouTube for his 2016 seniors, inspiring them to be the best they could be.

"There needs to be something in your life that you're working at and working hard at and getting better at,” he said in the video.

"He always gave us good advice, no doubt,” said former student Cesar Alvizo. “He'd always tell us keep moving in life."

He had such an influence, some students called him dad.

"He reached out to students at every corner of our campus,” said Ennis High School Principal David Averett. “Whether athletes, band kids, a skateboard over there, it didn't matter. He didn't care whether they like to fish or hunt, he could talk to you about anything."

Inspired by Boson, Fotheringham is studying to be a teacher.

"I can only hope I'm half as good a teacher as he was,” she said.

In his message, Boston advised his students to be ready for the difficult times in life.

"I'm gonna miss y'all,” he said in the video. “I really am."

No one dreamed his video would be a last goodbye.

A family member who didn't want to talk on camera said even they are amazed by how much Boston impacted his students, other teachers and the community.
