Southwest begins ticket sales to Hawaii, select fares as low as $49

Tickets are now on sale for Southwest Airlines flights to Hawaii, with a handful of one-way prices as low as $49 and $99.

Service to Honolulu begins March 17 from Oakland, with flights to Maui beginning April 7. Flyers from Dallas can book tickets that will take them from Love Field to Oakland, make a plane change and then Oakland to Hawaii.

“As we answer the call for Southwest in Hawaii with an initial schedule of service that speaks to a longheld hope of our Customers, I applaud and congratulate our People for their steady and impressive work to bring our world-famous Hospitality and game-changing value to the Islands," said Southwest chief executive Gary Kelly in a prepared statement.

Southwest will eventually offer flights to Hawaii out of San Jose, Sacramento and San Diego. There are no plans for direct flights to Hawaii out of Love Field.

Other Hawaiian cities Southwest plans to fly to include Kauai, Kona and inter-island service between Honolulu and Maui.

Rival airlines are expected to start cutting prices to Hawaiian destinations in response to Southwest's ticket sales.
