Record-breaking python captured in Everglades

A python hunter in the Florida Everglades nabbed a record-breaking python in a program that's helping to eliminate the invasive species.

Dusty Crum broke his own record for the longest snake caught. This one was 16-feet 11-inches, an inch longer than his previous record-breaking catch.

The South Florida Water Management District's Python Elimination Program began in late March. So far, more than 600 of the invasive pythons have been captured by hunters.

SFWMD says each hunter gets paid based on the measurement of the python, then the snake belongs to the hunter after check-in. Hunters often sell the pythons for their skins after that, the agency says.
