2 North Texas students to compete in Scripps National Spelling Bee

A fifth grader from Plano and a seventh grader from Coppell will represent North Texas during the National Scripps Spelling Bee later this year.

Skaggs Elementary student Faizan Zaki and Coppell Middle School student Sriya Gomatam were perfect during the regional competition on Saturday at Booker T. Washington High School in Dallas.

Plano 5th grader headed to Scripps National Spelling Bee

Congratulations to Faizan Zaki, a fifth grade student in Skaggs Elementary in Plano who was a co-winner of the regional spelling bee over the weekend. He's now heading to the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

Zaki and co-champion Gomatam beat out 26 other students to win the regional championship.

They will get an all-expense-paid trip to Washington D.C. to compete in the national spelling bee from May 30 - June 1.
