We are in for another dangerously hot day with the heat index over 100 degrees. That’s why paramedics in Fort Worth are warning people.

MedStar crews responded to a lot of heat-related calls this week in Tarrant County, including a call about a child who was left in a hot car.

On Thursday, paramedics treated 21 patients for heat-related illnesses. Out of those, 15 were taken to the hospital with two in critical condition.

It’s three times the number of people who needed treatment on Wednesday when paramedics also got a call about a child who was left in a hot car.

The child in Tarrant County was rescued and did not need to be hospitalized. Another child in Aubrey wasn’t as fortunate and was unresponsive when airlifted to the hospital.

Friday will be another dangerously hot day. The heat index values for North Texas will be between 105 and 110 degrees, making it the third day in a row with a heat index in the triple digits.

MedStar officials said heat exhaustion and heat stroke are common this time of year but they can be prevented.

People should drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and stay in a place where there is plenty of circulation, especially if there is no air conditioning.

Those who need to be out in the heat should wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing and a hat. They should also take breaks during the hot day, especially if they start to feel light-headed.

Last, everyone should be checking on loved ones including children and the elderly.
