Funeral held for 18-month-old Dallas boy found in landfill
DALLAS - The little boy whose body was found in a landfill earlier this month was buried on Saturday.
The family of Cedric Jackson -- better known as C.J. -- met in Dallas to say their final goodbyes.
Jackson's aunt and her boyfriend are charged in connection with the death of the 18-month-old.
It’s still now known how he died, and why he was put in a dumpster.
Saturday’s services were more about honoring C.J.’s very short life.
A large crowd attended the funeral. Some who didn’t even know C.J. or his family came out.
C.J. was reported missing a few weeks ago, and after a statewide Amber Alert, he was found in a landfill.
His aunt and her boyfriend were later arrested.
On Saturday, family members said they will try to heal as they continue searching for answers.
“It’s time to become closer,” said Antoine Haynes, who is C.J.'s cousin. “This is tragedy when a child loses his life. We must understand God makes no mistakes. We have to learn to forgive one another for the mistakes we make. It will get better sooner or later.”
There is still a criminal side to this tragedy.
Sedrick Johnson was arrested after admitting to dumping C.J.’s body in a dumpster. C.J.’s aunt, Chrystal Jackson, was also arrested.
New court documents say she lied to police for hours, and according to those documents, they say she lied about not knowing where the child was when she reported him missing.
