The man accused of shooting a woman and barricading himself in Euless was found dead after officers broke into his apartment on Wednesday afternoon.

The man accused of shooting a woman and barricading himself in Euless was found dead after officers broke into his apartment on Wednesday.

What we know:

Euless police said they got a call around 8 a.m. about a shooting at an apartment complex near Raider Drive and Euless Boulevard.

Responding officers learned that a woman had been shot, and her friend took her to the hospital.

The suspect reportedly stayed behind and barricaded himself inside the apartment.

SWAT officers were called. Negotiators tried to get him to surrender, but he refused, police said.

Images from SKY 4 showed a large police presence outside the apartment during the standoff.

Several nearby schools, including Central Junior High, KEYS High School, and the HEBISD DAEP school, were placed on lockdown as a precaution because of the police activity.

By the time SWAT officers forced their way into the apartment, police said the 35-year-old suspect was dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Neighbors said they were startled by the morning commotion.

"As soon as I open up the front door the police were standing outside with guns pointing at this unit behind us. They told me to get back in the house. It's a barricaded hostage situation," said Erica Conley, who lives nearby.

"They have two little girls and they are out there playing like normal families," Amber Schenk said of the couple involved. "They were always nice every time we see them."

What we don't know:

Police have not yet released the name of the suspect or elaborated on his relationship to the shooting victim.

The victim’s condition is unknown.
