Gen Z and millennials tend to tip less often than older generations, according to a Bankrate study released this summer.
And one of those areas where it’s becoming apparent appears to be at the bar. Several bartenders reportedly shared what they’re noticing about Gen Z and their drinking habits.
What they're saying:
"Even five years ago, young people would still be kind of generous. Now they’re definitely skimping on tips," said Brit Wolfe Wilson, who has bartended on and off for a decade, told The San Francisco Standard.
The other side:
FOX News Digital spoke to two recent college graduates who said they're mindful when it comes to tipping their bartenders.
How much should you tip bartenders?
By the numbers:
According to Toast, a good rule of thumb is to tip $1-$2 per drink ordered if it’s beer, wine, or standard mixed drinks. For more expensive cocktails or when running a tab, consider tipping 15-20% of the total bill similar as you would in a restaurant.
Toast is a restaurant management software company.

Gen Z and tipping
Regardless of the business or scenario, Gen Zers and millennials stand out as the least frequent tippers, according to a Bankrate study.
For example:
About 43% of Gen Zers and 61% of millennials always tip at sit-down restaurants, versus 83% of Gen Xers and 84% of boomers, the survey found.
Big picture view:
This trend might be cultural, economic or both.
