25 neglected Wise County horses released to Humane Society

Wise County Animal Control negotiated the release of 25 horses in Springtown.

After the Animal Control department received a complaint about nearly 30 neglected horses, they met the owner of the property and negotiated a release of the animals.

The Humane Society of North Texas (HSNT) then assisted the owner in taking control of the horses so that they could be rehabilitated and put up for adoption.

Their owner had been taking in horses that others no longer wanted and became overwhelmed by the number of horses in her care. She was ran over and severely injured by horses who were fighting over their small ration of food. The injury left her unable to properly care for them.

The horses had not been given enough food, medical care or hoof care. Some horses have hooves so overgrown that they can barely walk.

"We strongly encourage people to reach out to us if they feel overwhelmed and are not able to care for their horses rather than let them suffer or starve. We are here to help, not judge, and we never turn an animal away" said Sandy Shelby, Senior Director of Development and Communications of the HSNT.

The horses will now be given necessary food and bodily care. Once they are healthy, they will be put up for adoption.
