Armed open carry advocates met today at the Katy Trail in Dallas.

There has been a string of recent armed robberies on the popular running and cycling path.

The group "Come & Take it Texas" protested a request from Dallas Police that people leave their guns at home when using the Katy Trail.

Organizers say they were dressed in funny costumes to keep regular runners from being afraid. They say the intent is to make criminals aware that there are people who are armed in public.
Organizers say it's time for more people to exercise their right to carry.

Katy Trail officials asked for police to monitor today's demonstration and they asked regular runners to avoid the area.

Today’s event ended with no incidents. Organizers say that’s how their events always are all over the state.
