What we know:

According to the Waxahachie Fire Department, a lightning strike around 6:30 a.m. caused a large house fire in the 1500 block of Pierce Street.

A FOX 4 viewer shared video of the flames at their peak.

The roof was fully engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived. They were able to get the blaze under control but the home now has extensive fire damage.

There were two people in the home when the fire broke out – Faye Kimbrough and her elderly mom, who relies on portable oxygen. They both managed to get out safely.

What they're saying:

"When the strike hit, I just heard something hit. But I didn't think it was my home. And once I just started smelling something then I went and grabbed my mom and said our house has to be on fire. And the neighbor came from two blocks over to tell us to get out of the house," Kimbrough said.

She said the home is insured, and the company has already helped to make arrangements for temporary housing.
