Texas Scottish Rite Hospital has more than 200 junior volunteers this summer.

They work in all areas of the hospital and the teenagers gain valuable job and life experience.

Frankie Cortez is one of them. He'll be a senior this year at Plano West High School.

Cortez is a running back on the football team and plans to be an emergency room doctor. He's busy, but he makes time to volunteer.

In fact, this is his third summer as a junior volunteer.

When FOX 4 met Cortez, he was popping and selling popcorn in the hospital's atrium. The popcorn machine generates money for non-budgeted items.

Last year, 4,300 pounds of popcorn was popped, bringing in an extra $40,000 to help the children in the Dallas hospital.

Cortez hopes other teenagers will volunteer at Texas Scottish Rite.

Registration for the 2016 junior volunteer class opens Dec. 1. For information, call 214-559-7825.
