A new facility opening soon in Grand Prairie is being called a “life-changing center.” The Epic has so many features it’s practically a small town.

FOX 4’s Ashley Paredez got a sneak peek of the 128,000-square-foot recreation center. It’s part of the $94 million expansion at EpicCentral, an entertainment and recreation development owned by the city of Grand Prairie.

The fitness area alone cost $1 million. It’s filled with hundreds of strength and cardio options, as well as classrooms.

Fitness supervisor Robert Serna pointed out a group of women lifting barbells.

“This is an example of some of the group exercise offerings that we will have including Crossfit. These are our friends from Crossfit Bullseye and they’re enjoying a morning WOD, one of the best ways to get up in the morning and have plenty of energy the rest of the day,” he said.

Serna said The Epic really is all about fitness and fun for people of all ages and abilities. It will offer youth programming, aquatics, group exercise and more.

“Grand Prairie is a world-class community and we felt we deserved a world-class amenity. But this facility isn’t just for citizens of Grand Prairie. We want the whole North Texas region to enjoy it. Friends from the north, south, east and west, just come partake in our amenities here,” said Grand Prairie Mayor Ron Jensen.

The mayor said it’s a family-friendly destination that people can take advantage of all day long. In addition to the fitness area, The Epic has a café, atrium, event spaces, a teaching kitchen, athletic courts, a movie theater and rooms for kids.

It’s across the street from Epic Waters, which opened in January. PlayGrand Adventures is also set to open in EpicCentral in 2019 or 2020.

“A family can come, park the car and stay all day long. You can come in and work out, there’s a preteen room, a teen room, a place for babysitting. You can walk the trails. You can have lunch. There’s a theater. You can watch a show. You can go across the street and go for a swim, wade, wave pool, ride a wave and finish with an evening walk out on the trails and maybe a show that evening on our grand lawn,” Mayor Jensen said.

The Epic is membership-based but members don’t have to live in the city of Grand Prairie.

The grand opening will be on Nov. 17.
