DENTON, Texas - Gasoline prices are so low in North Texas right now that even owners of gas-guzzling cars and trucks are saving money.
FOX 4’s Dionne Anglin went to Denton Monday morning to check out how cheap the gas is. She found gas for just $1.99 a gallon of regular unleaded at an Exxon Station near Interstate 35E and Teasley Lane.
But that wasn’t the lowest in town. The Buc-ee’s in Denton had gas at $1.68 for a gallon of regular unleaded. It was on sale for $1.18 a gallon with the purchase of a car wash.
Texas is among the states leading a decline in gas prices, along with Oklahoma, Missouri, South Carolina and Louisiana.
For the past eight weeks, prices have dropped in the Dallas – Fort Worth area. This week the average price of gasoline is down 9 cents. That’s 42 cents lower than a month ago.
The dip means many North Texas are now filling up for well under $2 a gallon.
The national average is also down 7.8 cents this week but still hovering around $2.53 per gallon.
But, experts are encouraging people to take advantage of the cheap prices while they can. Over the weekend there was a surge in oil prices on the heels of a pause on tariffs between the United States and China.
