Two major crashes shut down Interstate 20 between Bonnie View and Interstate 45 in Dallas for several hours Wednesday morning into the afternoon.

FOX 4 viewers sent in videos of one crash showing flames shooting from an 18-wheeler that crashed into an overhead sign. It was about 8:10 a.m. when dash cam video caught this major crash.

Investigators have not said what caused either crash, but Dallas Fire-Rescue says at least four people total were injured.

Crews were able to put out the flames in the 18-wheeler crash and transported at least three people to nearby hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

Around 10:38 a.m., an SUV crashed into the back of an 18-wheeler and ended up underneath the trailer on westbound I-20 near I-45. The driver of that SUV was taken by care-flight to a hospital in unknown condition.

The crashes did cause a major traffic backup all morning all the way to I-35 E. Some drivers reported sitting in traffic for two hours as emergency crews cleared the scene.

Despite Wednesday’s heat, Dallas Fire-Rescue says no first responders had to be treated for heat exhaustion.
