THE COLONY, Texas - Police say a suspected drunk driver was behind the wheel of an SUV that ran a red light in the colony and hit and killed a couple on a motorcycle. The couple’s two adult children were driving behind them at the time and saw it all.
Family members say Jeremy and Stephanie Byington were a statement of love. They were a couple whose high school crush evolved into the model marriage spanning decades.
The 42-year-olds were on their way to dinner near Plano Parkway and Highway 121 Tuesday just before 8 p.m. when police say a driver in an SUV ran a red light and struck their motorcycle -- killing them. Police say alcohol was a factor.
Their kids, 21-year-old Bryce and 20-year-old Shaunna, must now plan their parents’ funerals.
"It's hard to tell what God's plan is," said Benny Medcalf, the victim's brother-in-law. "It's very tragic, but they went out the way they would have wanted to go out: riding their bike together."
Police say the SUV driver won't be criminally charged until blood tests come back, and he gets out of the hospital.
A GoFundMe account has been set up for the family’s funeral expenses.
