Dolly Parton saved one more song for fans: Here's when it'll be released

Dolly Parton gifted many things to the world in her 80 years on Earth, and she’s not done giving yet. 

The late country icon and global treasure has a song you’ve never heard before, and it’ll remain buried for another 20 years. 

Parton died Tuesday at 80 after a brief battle with cancer.

What we know:

In a 2022 interview with Kelly Clarkson, Parton revealed an unreleased song called "My Place in History," which she recorded in 2015 and buried in a time capsule to celebrate the opening of Dollywood's DreamMore Resort in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

She left instructions that the box will stay sealed until Jan. 19, 2046, Parton’s 100th birthday.

What we don't know:

Parton never said what the song was about, but she did say "it’s a really good song."

"I put that in the box, but I had to write this song that nobody was gonna hear ‘til then," Parton told Clarkson. "And I tell you, you have no idea how much that has bothered me. I wanna go dig that up so bad."

What's next:

"Dolly: A True Original Musical," the Broadway musical based on Parton's extraordinary life, debuts Jan. 19, 2027, which would have been Parton's 81st birthday.
