DENTON, Texas - A gas leak in Denton Wednesday morning prompted street closures and forced a daycare to evacuate.
The Denton Police Department said workers hit a gas main just before 9 a.m. on Locust Street. They immediately shut down the street between Sycamore and Hickory streets.
People in the area were evacuated as a precaution, including about 200 children at the First United Methodist Church’s daycare.
Police said the kids were all safely moved to the lobby of a nearby Wells Fargo bank. They were allowed to return to their classrooms once they were given the "all clear" around 10:30 a.m.
No gas was found in the church, police said.
