Collin College campus shooting leaves 1 injured

Plano police are investigating a shooting at the Collin College campus Sunday night that left one man injured and a suspect in custody.

Plano police are investigating a shooting at the Collin College campus on Sunday night that left one man injured and a suspect in custody.

What we know:

Officers were called to the 5800 block of Jupiter Road, at the Collin College Student Housing complex, at approximately 8:15 p.m. 

A man had reportedly shot another man before fleeing toward student apartments. 

When officers arrived, a male victim was located with an apparent gunshot wound to the abdomen. 

The victim was transported by Plano Fire-Rescue to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A Collin College Police Officer witnessed the suspect flee the scene and enter an apartment within the same complex, which initiated a campus-wide lockdown.  

At approximately 8:55 p.m., the suspect exited the apartment and was taken into custody without incident by Plano Police Officers.

The suspect has been identified as 23-year-old Courtney Jacob Johnson of Plano.

The campus-wide lockdown was lifted at approximately 10:00 p.m.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the shooting stemmed from a verbal argument between the suspect and the victim in the student housing parking lot. This then escalated into a physical altercation.

The victim and suspect are registered students at the College for the upcoming Fall semester and reside within the college's student housing complex. 

Police say the individual residing in the apartment that Johnson entered is known to both parties but was not involved in the incident. 

The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment. His current condition is unknown.

What we don't know:

Police have not released the names of the victims.

Authorities said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
