Arlington police fatally shoot man in mental crisis
Arlington police officers shot and killed a man while responding to a home for a mental health call. The man was reportedly threatening to take his own life and charged at officers with a knife.
ARLINGTON, Texas - An overnight officer-involved shooting left a man dead in Arlington.
What we know:
It happened around 10:45 p.m. on Thursday after officers were called to a home in the 1700 block of West Lovers Lane. That’s just south of Interstate 30, north of West Pioneer Parkway.
Police said the man in question was roughly 50 years old and was in the house with other family members. They told the officers he was in a state of emotional distress and threatening to take his own life.
At some point, there was an altercation. Police said the man charged at officers with a knife. One officer fired, and the man was hit.
The man was taken to the hospital, but he did not survive.
What we don't know:
The man’s identity has not yet been released.
The Arlington Police Department said it will provide more information in a statement later on Friday.
