ARLINGTON, Texas - Two people were taken to the hospital after a fiery car crash early Wednesday morning in South Arlington.
It happened around midnight in the 3300 block of Matlock Road, just north of Mayfield Road.
Police said the car hit a tree and spun into a natural gas meter, which ruptured. It then took down a utility pole before finally hitting a brick shopping center.
The driver, a man in his 20s, is now in critical condition. His passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The gas main caught on fire and was allowed to burn for safety reasons. Crews worked to shut off the gas flow and repair the damaged power lines.
