Local charities celebrate North Texas Giving Day
DALLAS - It’s a big day for organizations that do a lot of good in North Texas. Thursday is North Texas Giving Day.
More than 2,500 local charities are participating in the fundraising event. They are asking for donations, which sometimes come with prizes.
There will be several events happening around North Texas to celebrate the day and encourage people to give to their favorite charity.
Throughout the morning Good Day will be talking with groups about their causes. Traffic reporter Chip Waggoner kicks it off by rocking with professional drummer April Samuels who founded “Breast Cancer Can Stick It” after she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010.
Samuels is now working to raise awareness and funds for research, clinical trials and a cure for breast cancer. Her motto has become a brand on shirts, water bottles and bass drum heads.
Last year the North Texas Giving Day donations and matching funds totaled $37 million.
This year giving stations are set up in Dallas, Tarrant, Denton and Collin counties or you can donate online at www.NorthTexasGivingDay.org.
