DALLAS - The Dallas Mavericks paid tribute to Dirk Nowitzki during his final home game with several video tributes. One brought him to tears.
The Uncle Dirk video showed him visiting young patients at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas.
Unlike some stars, Dirk never made a big deal about his work off the court. He made many unpublicized trips to the hospital over the years.
Dallas Morning News reporter Brad Townsend was allowed to follow on one visits. The Mavs shared the video Tuesday night to praise his impact on and off the court.
“Yeah, Brad got me. That was a good one. Yeah, you know. That’s what it’s all about. The way the community supported me from day one,” he said in an interview after announcing his retirement.
Dirk’s last NBA game will be in San Antonio Wednesday night.
