Fans head to TMS for big NASCAR race weekend

NASCAR fans are gearing up to fill Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth. There are three big races this weekend.

Race weekends at TMS are really all about the experiences. Fans make their way out to the track to have a good time.

FOX 4’s Shannon Murray talked to several fans who were up early Friday morning celebrating with music and a fire pit. They call themselves the Turn 2 Party Crew and said they’ve been going to the races at TMS for years.

“We get here on Wednesday to try to set up and get ready for the practice, races and get ready for the big time. We like to see what’s going on. We like to watch the haulers come in,” said Carla Stone.

This year fans will be able to try out a new free Ferris wheel. The whole track is visible from the top. There’s also a one-of-a-kind 7-Eleven store in the track outfield. For the true Texas appetite, it’s one of the only places you can get a Fletcher’s Corney Dog outside of the State Fair of Texas.

For the drivers, it’s a huge weekend. Hometown driver Jessie Iwuji graduated from Hebron High School in Carrollton. He’ll be racing in the #34 Fuel Track Chevrolet Friday night in the Vankor 350 Truck Series.

“It’s pretty awesome coming here to Texas Motor Speedway. First time racing here and it’s just going to be cool because I have a lot of family and friends and people I played high school football with and all that stuff just coming out to the race,” he said.

It will also be the first time Iwuji’s parents will see him race.

“My parents, my brothers, my aunts, my uncles, all those people. It’s their first time coming to a race so it’s going to be a crazy experience for them here. Their first NASCAR experience.

After the Truck Series on Friday, the My Bariatric Solutions 300 XFINITY Series race is on Saturday and the O'Reilly Auto Parts 500 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race on Sunday. Sunday’s race will be on FOX 4 started at 1:30 p.m.
