Here's To You: Common Cents

For the 26th year Dallas ISD has used Common Cents to help other people. 220 students and teachers celebrated their fundraising efforts which benefitted local nonprofits.

Therapy dog Gaia volunteers at Children’s Health

Lisa Kanarek has a beautiful husky, Gaia, who is gentle and engages well with children as a certified therapy dog. Patients at Children’s Health Dallas love it when Gaia visits their rooms to talk to her and pet her.

Cory Haskins’ family continues his toy drive

Cory Haskins was born with severe heart and lung defects. He had six open heart surgeries in his short life. On June 3, 2022, the 15-year-old passed away. Cory loved helping people and wanted that to continue after he was gone.

HTY: Former pediatric patient donates $29K in toys

Brecken Montgomery was born with a hole in his heart. He was 4 months old when he had surgery to repair it. He's now 8 years old, and this is the 8th year a toy donation has been made to the hospital where he had his surgery. He raised $29,000 to buy toys for patients in the heart unit at Children's Hospital Dallas.

The North Texas Food Bank will display about 1,200 beautiful bowls to represent the fact that not everyone in North Texas has a full bowl to eat.

Cedar Hill Tie Day teaches teens how to tie a tie

Cedar Hill ISD called in the pros with decades of experience tying ties for ‘Cedar Hill Tie Day.’ The school district's family and community engagement sponsored the event to teach this life skill to students 13 to 15 years old.

Hunt Leadership scholars volunteer at food bank

SMU freshman Megan Appel is a member of the Hunt Leadership Scholarship Program and invited other Hunt scholars to join her at the North Texas Food Bank. They were busy assembling 25 pallets of produce in 1,200 bags that weighed in at 18,000 pounds which turned into 15,000 meals.

Next Tuesday the 15th annual Prom Closet will open its doors at St. Andrew Methodist Church in Plano. Hundreds of prom dresses will be given away free of charge.
