FORT WORTH, Texas - Fort Worth police are investigating the death of a woman after her body was found in a neighborhood.
Police said a topless woman in her 30s was found shot dead near the intersection of Bellaire Drive South and Ranch View Road in southwest Fort Worth just after 6:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The area is next to an upscale gated community and there’s also a wooded area across the street.
Neighbors told FOX4 they heard several gunshots around 5 or 5:30 a.m. Someone who pulled up to the intersection noticed the body and called the police.
Residents of the neighborhood are rattled by the event, but Fort Worth police say that they are the key to the investigation.
"A lot of the best information will be from people in the neighborhood," FWPD Sergeant Chris Britt said. "People who know who doesn't belong there if they heard those shots."
Investigators have been searching the area for evidence and possibly shell casings. The woman has yet to be identified.
