Waxahachie police say a suspect was taken into custody after a hostage situation at a local hospital.

The incident began around 7 p.m at the Baylor Scott & White Hospital on Saturday.

Police say a man drove from Austin with his two children, held them hostage and gunpoint and told the ER waiting room to clear out.

Police and state troopers put the hospital on lockdown. They sent families in the waiting room to other nearby hospitals and started talking to the father.

Eventually, the man let his two children leave, unharmed physically, then held the gun to his own head before surrendering to police.

The suspect was taken into custody shortly before 8 p.m.

The children are being connected to family down in Austin.

The name of the suspect has not been released.

The hospital is back open and is operating normally.
