A University of North Texas student who was going to miss his graduation ceremony after being injured by a DWI suspect got to receive his diploma from the school’s president in a special ceremony at the hospital.

Matthew Herrera is recovering at Medical City Denton after he was struck by a suspected drunk driver while walking at the intersection of Mulberry and Welch streets in Denton.

He reportedly suffered a brain hemorrhage and several other injuries in the crash.

Since Herrera was going to have to miss UNT’s College of Business graduation ceremony Saturday night, UNT President Neal Smatresk brought the ceremony to him.

Smatresk made a special trip to the hospital and presented Herrera with his diploma Saturday afternoon.

The driver involved in the crash, Mical Mosley, was arrested for intoxication assault and later released from jail after posting $10,000 bond.
