This week, Dallas police need help to identify the man who attacked and tried to rape an Oak Cliff woman.
Sex crimes detectives desperately want to identify the man and get him off the street before he tries another violent attack.
The best images from the November 30 attack come from a Dollar Tree less than a mile from where the attack actually took place. A man brutally beat and tried to sexually assault a 59-year old woman at Kenway and Five Mile Parkway in Oak Cliff. Grainy black and white video from a distance through the lens of a neighbor’s surveillance system captured the incident from start to finish.
“The suspect approached her and asked for a drink of water,” explained Dallas Police Lt. Sharise Hadnot.
After the woman got him a drink a water, the two talked. She described him as a very young person and thought she was helping a young kid. Then, he turned on her.
“Once he drug her to the ground, you can see for eight minutes them rolling around on the ground. You can see the figures tumbling around,” Hadnot said. “He's assaulting her and attacking her hitting her for about eight minutes. During that time, about four or five cars passed. No one stopped. No one called the police. Nothing happened, but the attack continued.”
Then, the attack finally stopped.
“She got up and ran. He got up and ran and got his shoes out of the cart that he had been pushing,” Hadnot said.
The shopping cart came from the Dollar Tree at I-30 and Ledbetter less than a mile away where the attacker was seen on video going in the store.
“You see him walking around different aisles of the Dollar Tree picking up different items,” Hadnot said.
The man was wearing a white tank top with black shorts. He had on green and red Christmas socks with no shoes.
“It appears he's carrying the white shoes in his hand,” Hadnot said. “And he just goes straight for the door. He doesn’t pay for anything. Passes up all of the registers.”
Detectives say the man’s walk stands out as well as his choice of clothing.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Dallas Police Sex Crimes Division at (214) 671-3683.
