Snow falls in parts of North Texas

WEATHERFORD, Texas - The winter storm that brought blizzard conditions to West Texas has reached North Texas.

More than 10 inches of snow fell in Lubbock Sunday and snow is now falling in some parts of North Texas.

It started around 3:30 a.m. west of Fort Worth and moved east. About 2 inches fell in Weatherford in Parker County.

“Right now it’s not good. It’s so thick, you just loose traction right down here on Fort Worth Highway. So I don’t really know what the highway is yet, but it’s pretty intense coming through here through town. You have to take it easy,” said Ray Ruiz, who was driving through the snow.

Officials in the area have asked people to stay off the roads if possible. The city of Weatherford will delay the opening of it's offices until 10 a.m.

Texas Department of Transportation spokesman Val Lopez said there has been a pretty good snow accumulation in the western counties, specifically Parker and Palo Pinto counties.

“We’ve had crews working through the evening and this morning to try to remove some of the snow that accumulated on I-20. The issue here is not so much ice; it’s more snow which makes it more manageable. Snow is manageable,” he said.

But Lopez still advised people who need to travel to be cautious and give themselves plenty of time to get to where they are going.

So far the weather has canceled about 200 flights to and from DFW Airport. That's about 10 percent of flights. At Love Field, there are just 13 cancelations so far.

More flights could be delayed or canceled as the day goes on with severe weather in other parts of the country.

But FOX 4 Meteorologist Evan Andrews said most of the wintry mix should be drying up later this morning. The rest of the day will just be chilly with highs barely above 40 degrees.
