Police: Frisco child killed in possible murder-suicide attempt

Frisco police are investigating a possible murder-suicide attempt that left a child dead and the child’s mother hospitalized.

Officers found the pair just before 6 a.m. Saturday in the 15200 block of Preachers Lane.

Frisco police said someone called 911 out of concern. After arriving at the scene, the first responders found the mother and six-year-old child in a vehicle parked outside a home.

The child was pronounced dead at the scene while the mother was taken to a local hospital. Details about her condition were not released.

“This is obviously a very difficult situation for everybody involved, especially the family,” said Sgt. Evan Mattei, Frisco PD.

Police said they are investigating the case as an attempted murder-suicide. Mattei would not describe any injuries to the child or possible cause of death.

“There has not been any charges brought yet, so at this point with the legal aspects of it, we’re not releasing the names of the parties involved,” Mattei said.

Police said crimes against children are troubling, even for first responders.

“This is something that we want to do right by the family and provide them with the answers that they’re looking for through a thorough investigation which at this time remains on going,” Mattei said.

Frisco ISD confirmed the six-year-old boy was a kindergartner at Ashley Elementary School about a half mile from the home. The district released a statement saying in part, it was heartbroken to learn of the sudden passing of one of its students.

Police ask anyone with information about the case to call the Frisco Police Department at 972-292-6010.
