A group of middle schoolers teamed up with a local restaurant to make Veterans Day extra special for a few North Texas veterans.

It was the simple gestures of a free meal and a letter of thanks that meant a lot to the veterans who received them at the Lake Worth Applebee’s.

Students from Marsh Middle School were also at the restaurant to personally deliver thank you notes to veterans.

"I really enjoyed it. I read two letters,” said veteran Bill Harvison. “So I liked them a whole lot, and I was proud that they did it."

One by one, the veterans read each letter and saw just how much a younger generation appreciates them.

"It actually kind of made me tear up a little bit,” admitted veteran Fritz Dyer. “It's our country. It's our job. But it's important that they know that there's young men out there and young women out there who are fighting for their rights."

And the sentiment in return was just as heartfelt.

“It's just amazing to see all these veterans who have served for us and took the risk for our country and our freedom,” said student Bianca Torrez.

"They touched my heart,” said student Karina Moreno. “I think it's very important for them to receive these notes. That way, we can connect with them."

"It's nice that it is carried on to our young people now,” said veteran Juan Duff. “So they can recognize the sacrifice that our serviceman had made for them to do something like that and their freedom."
