The American Cancer Society broke ground Tuesday on the new Gene and Jerry Jones Family Hope Lodge.

The Hope Lodge will offer free lodging for cancer patients traveling to Dallas for treatment. It will help eliminate some of the financial burdens they face while spending weeks or even months away from home.

The Jones’ donated $7.5 million to build on the property that was donate by Baylor Scott & White.

"This is a great day for those individuals and their families that will benefit from this magnificent facility ... on behalf of the patients and their families, let's say yahoo!" said Robin Robinson, President of the Baylor Scott & White Foundation.

The new 40,000 square-foot facility will cost $25 million to build and will have 50 private guest suites plus common living areas, a kitchen and dining room, laundry facilities, a library, meditation room and garden. It will be located on the property next to the Baylor University Medical Center campus in East Dallas.

It’s the first Hope Lodge in North Texas.
