Police investigating Dallas hit-and-run accident that left man critically injured

- Dallas police are investigating a hit-and-run that left a pedestrian critically injured Wednesday night in Northeast Dallas.

Authorities say that a 53-year-old man was crossing Park Lane near a 7-Eleven store at about 11:40 p.m. Wednesday with his girlfriend. As a car came speeding toward them, the man threw his girlfriend out of the way. She was not hurt, but he sustained critical injuries.

The driver kept going and has not yet been identified. But police say that they are working to get surveillance footage from nearby businesses to help them catch the driver. The footage, obtained by FOX4, shows a white car hitting the man.

Janet Taylor can't shake what she saw. She was standing outside the 7-Eleven when she saw a man crossing the street with his wife get run over by a hit-and-run driver.

“A car just hit this guy, and he went into the air and landed on the ground,” she recalled.

Taylor says a nurse is among the people who ran over to help.

“He saved the life of his wife, and she knew that she panicked. She was trying to hold him, love him and all this,” Taylor said. “I got goosebumps. It’s really sad. I want to put flowers out there for him. It's just sad that they did that.”

Witnesses told police that the car could be a Dodge Avenger and could have sustained front-end damage. After hitting the man, the car turned right and fled the scene.

Police are looking for anyone who has information about the incident. In particular, they are looking for the driver of a pickup truck who they said could have witnessed the accident.

They say the driver will face charges for failing to stop and render aid once located.
