Lupe Valdez takes a stand on campaign issues

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Lupe Valdez stopped by Good Day Thursday morning to share her take on the issues.

Valdez said she is focused on education and making schools safe. When it comes to arming teachers, she thinks it is up to the school district. She also thinks the state needs to do something about gun violence.

When it comes to school finance, Valdez said Texas has many outdated mandates and loopholes that need to be fixed.

“The budget is the moral document of the state. We decide on the priorities just like you do at home. You have a certain amount you have to decide the priorities. Our priorities need to be public education and healthcare, not whatever else is coming along. We need to pay attention to the things that are coming along for both sides,” she said.

Valdez is trailing Gov. Greg Abbott by double digits in the most recent polls.

For anyone planning to vote in the upcoming election, the last day to register to vote is Oct. 9. Early voting runs from Oct. 22 through Nov. 2. Election day is Nov. 6.
