Fire at AT&T facility causes widespread outage in North Texas

Having trouble watching TV or connecting to the internet? AT&T confirms a widespread outage in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

There was a fire at one of AT&T’s switching stations in Richardson Monday morning, causing quite a bit of damage.

The Richardson Fire Department said firefighters arrived at the facility in the 1600 block of Firman Dr just before 10 a.m. to find an electrical fire burning both the company's primary and backup electrical systems.

Although AT&T originally responded to customers on Twitter Monday by saying the facility was struck by lightning, the company now says the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Services were reportedly restored around 8 p.m. Monday.

No one was hurt in the fire.
