Judge in case to have Hawk removed recuses self

The Chief Justice of the Texas Supreme Court will be asked to assign a judge to oversee the case against Dallas District Attorney Susan Hawk after Judge Staci Williams recused herself.

Hawk has been back at work since Oct. 1 after more than two months of treatment for depression. About a week after she was back in office, Cindy Stormer’s attorneys filed a petition to try and have Hawk removed.

The case was assigned to Judge Williams, who asked her boss, Judge Mary Murphy, to appoint the case to another judge.

Murphy, too, has decided to pass.

In the latest round of court filings, Murphy writes that she “Voluntarily recuses from this cause...and refers the case to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Texas for assignment of a judge."

Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins says he has not seen or talked with Hawk since December or January.

While Jenkins plans to see Hawk later this month, it will be longer than that before the case goes to court.
